Everywhere is a stage is my work from the first semester of my junior year.
The theme of the course is "Putting Elephants in the Refrigerator", and we need to stuff 100 rooms into a building on a limited area. The project is located on an abandoned land opposite the Kerry Center in Hangzhou. We have decided through research to build a band house with the theme of bands, in order to support the cultural and entertainment activities of Kerry Center and provide a shining stage for bands facing difficulties in China.
The entire building's three story exterior is rotated based on a rectangular prism. The space in the building is cut with elliptical spheres. The space of the elliptical sphere corresponds to the function of the stage.
We translate different types of stages into architectural forms, such as extended stages, arenas, framed stages, and stepped stages. And arrange them separately on four floors, each stage having basic stage elements such as dressing rooms, stages, audience seats, etc.
While meeting the needs of residents' performance venues, we also designed living spaces. Designed suitable layouts for different band characters and arranged layouts of different scales around the stage.
At the same time, the appearance of the building also changes according to the surrounding environment, such as rounded edges near the street to reduce the pressure of the building on the surrounding environment.
