A church growing in the soil is my project for the second semester of my senior year. We chose (light) weather resistant steel metal from research and case studies; After multiple tests and improvements on the different spatial relationships, stress modes, and connection methods of the (heavy) rammed earth material, the final determination of the wall body was made.

Starting from the wall, profiles with different spatial types and functional effects were generated based on the general adaptability and characteristics of the wall to space.

At the same time, the church is closely connected to the lake water on the site, and the use of the main space of the church also changes as the tide rises and falls. When the water level is lower than the terrace, people look up at the lake view and feel tranquility. When the lake water submerges the terrace, people feel inner wandering on the stepped platform.Overall, architecture has achieved the goal of being born in nature, taking from nature, and returning to nature.



By combining two materials with a significant difference in texture, we hope to achieve a unified structure where each layer of material is separated from each other from a human perspective. The metal roof appears to be suspended in mid air, while also covering the interior and exterior spaces. From a human perspective, the space is enveloped by the suspended roof, creating a wall effect that connects the interior and exterior. Rammed earth walls are built on the ground, but in the design, they are lifted through the structure, as if achieving a suspended effect. After multiple material tests and wall mechanics tests, we finally obtained a relatively complete wall design.



Starting from the wall, profiles with different spatial types and functional effects were generated based on the general adaptability and characteristics of the wall to space. Combined with the features of the site such as lake, mountain surround, and closely connected dam, the wall was adjusted to generate spaces with different site characteristics that are suitable for the site and function. Simultaneously using different wall arrangements to shape according to the needs of different spaces.
